Patricia A. Monogue Balkcom of Columbia, Maryland is a direct descendant of Michael Cassin (c1773-1843), who emigrated from Ireland, possibly Queen's County (renamed County Laois in 1922), around 1818 and settled in Valcartier, Quebec. The family lived in Valcartier for almost 100 years until Patrick Cassin, grandson of Michael, moved his family in 1912 to Hamilton, Ontario where many of the descendants live today.
