St. Gabriel's Catholic Church

          Valcartier, Quebec           

    Records for St. Gabriel's Church began in 1843, although the first chapel was erected around 1838.  Thanks to the the many years' work of Bernie Monaghan and Gerry Neville transcribing these records, we now have an account of the Catholic families who lived in Valcartier and the surrounding areas.  I have begun to enter all of these people into my database, whether they are related to me or not.  This will eventually help many people with ancestors in the area see how they are related to each other.  Please see below for my current progress.

        Janice Copeman has posted a history and some pictures of the church so I will not repeat that here.  However, I will give a listing of the surrounding churches and their date of establishment as this may help you to find other records of your family.  Before, the building of St. Gabriel's, families in Valcartier frequently used the churches in Ste-Catherine's or Loretteville, so children of one family may have been baptized in different churches depending on the dates of their births. I have only listed those churches in Quebec City where I have found Valcartier residents listed; there were many more Catholic Churches in the city established over the years.

26 Aug 2007 - St. Gabriel's Church records 1843 through 1888 complete (includes all births, baptisms, and deaths from the Monaghan and Neville files)

19 July 2005 - have added all Catholics listed in the 1851 and 1861 Valcartier Census to my database whether they are related to me or not.
