LUKE GIBBONS, 96, KING TOWNSHIP PIONEER DIES
One of King Township's oldest resident, Luke Gibbons, passed away at his daughter's home near Kettleby, on Thursday morning in his 96th year after an illness of some weeks.
As a young man he was for some years a school teacher, later, he tried his hand at writing and had a novel published. For many years he was a collector of Indian relics and mementoes of the early history of the district. He was justice of the peace in King Township for many years.
Son of Patrick Gibbons, a yound Irish immigrant who came to Canada in 1830, Luke has spent most of his 96 years on the farm which belonged to his father. The farm adjoins that of Sir William Mulock, and the two nonagenarians exchanged friendly visits on several occasions.
Mr. Gibbons was an ardent temperance worker, joining the Sons of Temperance at Kettleby at the age of 20. He was a devout Roman Catholic and a Liberal in politics.
Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. George Paxton, two sons, Frank of Richmond Hill, John of Montana and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 10:30 D.S.T. at St. John's Church, Newmarket. Interment in St. John's cemetery.

His father and mother were pioneers of Kettelby. Carrying on the same pioneer farm is his daughter, Mrs. George Paxton. There are two sons, one at Richmond Hill and one at Montana, USA; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
