Research on the Marshall family was started by Patricia Balkcom, great-great granddaughter of John Marshall, in the early 1980's.  The first major contributions were provided by the late Frances Marshall of Burin who kindly corresponded with Pat and provided her with a copy of the book, "The History of Burin", written by that community's senior citizens in 1977.  George Marshall, Jr., great grandson of John, joined the effort in the 1990's and made two trips to Newfoundland where he gathered valuable information and was able to meet and visit with the current day Marshalls in Burin.  This, then, is a compilation of our findings, however, there is still much to learn and we welcome any additions or corrections.
