| Will* | 28 December 1748 | Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States, Donegal Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA, From John of Ireland database: Executors were: Brother John Galbreath [recall that she and John were children of the first James who came in 1718] and my son JAMES KARR Children: Charles, Robert, and William Stuart, Frances Stuart, Margret witnesses Janet (x) Galbreth (would have been her sister-in-law) and Elizabeth Kerr. 1) I can only guess that James Karr must have been son-in-law (perhaps spouse to Margret). Also James Karr was the accountant for the estate of Jannet, widow of John (he died in 1753). I have a feeling that this Janet was thus a Karr/Kerr. Was he spouse of Elizabeth Kerr? 2) There seems to be v. little consistancy in writing wills in the 1700s. I have seen many that neglected to mention daughters unless they were minors. I would have thought for Rebecca's minors there would have been some instructions. Perhaps there are orphan court proceedings. At any rate if James Karr is the son or son-in-law he was born by 1726 (and ditto for witness Elizabeth Kerr) I suspect Rebecca would not have born after 1708. I would still put it around 1702, so she could have married Alexander before 1718 and her family's departure. I ran across the will of Rebekah Galbraith Steuart (SIC) as it was in the Galbraith folder at the Lancaster Historical Society. Kerr/Karr and Stewart/Stuart folders should be checked |

After the death of John Galbraith (her grandfather) his lands were divided and sold. That part on the ___ side of the creek was purchased _______ and the original hundred acres of land was purchased by John Bayly, who was the son of Thomas Bayly, and was born upon a farm near where Florin is. He married Ruth Andeerson. He was a member of the Supreme Executive Council of the State from this county during the Revolutionary War. The mills and ordinary were conducted by him unti his death in 1749. He was one of the owners and founders of the town of Falmouth. A few years after his death Henry Shearer purchased the farm and mills. In the year 1804 he tore the old mills down, and erected a large stone mill on the south side of the road and a large stone dwelling on the hill on the north side. Either then or a few years later a still house was erected near the mill. This was known as a merchant mill.
