Name Variation John St. Croix
Anecdote* The name St.Croix of course means Holy Cross. The story that I have is that our ansesters carried the Cross in the crusades. The story that I have is that three brothers came here to Newfoundland to fight in the French and English war.in the 1700's. At that time the capitol of Newfoundland was in a place called Placenta or Placence as the French called it. The war was fought in St.John"s which was held by the English. The French lost the battle and were driven out. These three St.Croix brothers not wanting to return to France escaped and ran to settlements along the coast. One brother went to what is called the French Shore but we don't know what became of him. The other two brothers settled in St. Mary"s Bay and married into the Irish.

Married Name Walsh
Baptism*18 March 1872 St. Mary's Bay, Newfoundland, Canada, The date of birth conflicts with age of 56 listed on death certificate. Godparents were John White and Anastasia Bishop. The priest was Father Stephen O'Driscoll. The church record in St. Mary's Bay states that the date of baptism was 18 March, 1872 however, this would be only 6 months after the birth of her sister, Winnifred.
Marriage*7 January 1893 Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Performed by Rev. M.A. Clancy. Witnesses were Andre Rose and Hannah O'Rielly., Principal=Patrick Walsh
Num Child* Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, 11(?) - Have birth certificates for only 6 children - however Sadie's daughter says there were 11 children including 2 sets of twins. I am aware of these children: Annie, Violet, Sadie, Laura, Catherine, James, Ralph, Gordon, Ronald - that's nine, maybe there was a set of twins who died, that would make 11 including two sets of twins (Ralph was a twin, I suspect Gordon was his twin).
(Witness) Death1915 Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Died same year as Violet, maybe they both died of measles., Principal=Patrick Gordon Walsh
(Witness) Death21 June 1916 Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Was 7 years old, her brother died the same year. Ralph had a twin who died of measles (maybe this was Gordon) and they both might have died of measles., Principal=Violet Mary Walsh
(Witness) Death12 December 1926 Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Died of pneumonia at the age of 21. Wrote to Newfoundland Vital Statistics. They could not find a death certificate for Annie between 1920 - 1930., Principal=Annie Walsh
(Witness) Death3 February 1932 Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Age 67., Principal=Patrick Walsh
Will*1935 Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada, Wrote to the Registry, Supreme Court; St. John's, Newfoundland A1C 5M3 for a copy of a will, no will on record.
Death*2 May 1935 Point Verde, Newfoundland, Canada, Age listed as 56, which doesn't seem right, because that would make her 13 -14 when she got married, and marriage license says she was 20. That would make her about 62 when she died.
Burial*May 1935 Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Placentia, Newfoundland, Canada

Death*23 October 1949 Boston ?, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States, "Peter was a kind and gentle man who could be described as a wanderer - a restless soul. He, like his brother Ben, went to Boston at an early age to fish. Peter returned home for a visit in the late 1930's. He left home for St. John's after he'd been home for a few days and said he would return the following evening. The next word from Peter was that he was back in Boston. He made no contact with his family after that and little was heard of him until he died. Peter was never married." - Bren St. Croix
