| Birth* | 23 March 1869 | Army Barracks, Quebec, Canada, On his marriage certificate, Thomas listed his place of birth as Quebec. Family tradition states that he was born in the Army Barracks, in Quebec, most likely Quebec City, while Mathew was stationed there as a member of the Royal Canadian Rifles. |
| Census* | 1881 | London, Ontario, Canada, Thomas is listed as 10 years of age, living with his parents and siblings, Catholic, and born in Quebec. |
| Occupation | 1884 | London, Ontario, Canada, there was a listing in the city directory for "Mathew Minogue, Jr. living at 121 Quebec Street as a laborer for the Grand Trunk Railway". However, I believe this should have been Thomas' entry since Mathew, Jr. died as an infant. Thomas would have been 15 years old and working at the same place as his father. |
| Residence* | 1884 | London, Ontario, Canada, This was his parent's house that he was living in. |
| Occupation | 1886 | London, Ontario, Canada, working as a printer |
| Residence* | between 1886 and 1891 | London, Ontario, Canada, at the home of his parents at 529 Quebec Street. the city directory lists him at this address until 1891, however he is missing from the directories between 1891 - 1898, although we know he was in London during this time. |
| Occupation | 1887 | London, Ontario, Canada, working as a tailor for R. Boyd and sons. He is listed as a tailor through 1891, however the place of occupation is not known. By 1892, his sister, Annie, is also working as a tailoress. |
| Occupation | 1891 | London, Ontario, Canada, In the 1891 Census, Thomas is listed as 22 years old and working as a tailor. |
| Census | 29 April 1891 | London, Ontario, Canada, Thomas is listed as 22 years old, living with his parents and siblings, born in Quebec, and working as a tailor. |
| Name Change | circa 1894 | Thomas Henry Minogue, Family tradition says that he changed the last name from Minogue to Monogue because he didn't like people calling him "Mini". Must have been after 1894, since the Minogue spelling was listed at marriage. |
| Migration* | Quebec (1869), London (1894), Hamilton (1898). | |
| Marriage* | 6 February 1894 | London, Ontario, Canada, Witnesses were Terence King and Minnie O'Dwyer. Minnie (Mary Ann Dwyer) was the first cousin of Mary Ann Gibbons. She was the daughter of William Dwyer and Mariah O'Callaghan. Priest was Father M.J. Tiernan. Mary Ann's age was listed as 25 and Thomas's as 24., Principal=Mary Ann Gibbons, Witness=Mary Ann Dwyer |

| Residence* | 15 June 1896 | London, Ontario, Canada, Principal=Mary Ann Gibbons |
| Migration* | between 1896 and 1898 | Thomas and Mary Ann must have moved from London to Hamilton during this time., Principal=Mary Ann Gibbons |
| Occupation | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, According to Patrick Monogue, his grandfather Thomas also worked for the Liquor Control Board. | |
| Occupation* | In the cemetery record, Thomas is stated to have been a tailor and carpenter. | |
| Anecdote* | This information was gathered from Patrick Monogue, grandson of Thomas Henry Monogue. Thomas Henry was a conservative (in the political sense) ans was well-known by the people in government. Pat thinks that is how his father Thomas John got a job at the post office at the young age of 19. Thomas Henry was a tailor and he worked at a shop on James Street. Later, he owned a small tailor shop on Concession Street. This shop he later turned into "Tom Monogue's Ice Cream Parlour". Marlene Pryor has a picture of the sign for the shop. Although, Patrick does not remember his grandfather having an ice cream store, he does remember him bringing big tins of ice cream to the picnics they would have at Concession Park. Agnes, Thomas's daughter was also a seamstress but she worked for a big tailor outfit on King Street. When Thomas Henry got older he sold the shop and went to work for the Liquor Control Board store at Barton and Ottawa. His health deteriorated and he became confused probably from atherosclerosis and he came to live with Pat's family on Huron Street for a while because grandma couldn't take care of him by herself. He eventually went back to live with grandma and his daughters on Kensington Street. He stayed in the upstairs bedroom and he used to say he heard a baby crying (which would have been Marlene, Dorothy's daughter) but they just told him he was imagining things because they didn't want to explain that Dorothy had a baby. He died in the upstairs bedroom and on the same day "Aunt Lizzie" (Gibbons Armstrong) also died. So Grandma lost both her husband and sister on the same day., Principal=Mary Ann Gibbons | |

| Last Edited | Nov 4, 2007 |
| Birth* | 8 February 1898 | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Parents listed as Thomas Henry Monogue and Mary Ann Gibbons. |
| Namesake* | I assume that Thomas John Mathew was named after his father Thomas Henry Minogue, his maternal grandfather, John Gibbons, and his paternal grandfather, Mathew Minogue. | |
| Occupation* | between 1915 and 1963 | A newspaper article and picture was published upon Thomas' retirement. The articl stated: "After toting mail to Hamiltonians for 47 years, Thomas Monogue, of 775 Concession Street, walked out of the main post office this week carrying his lighttest load ever. But it was an important item - a scroll from Postmaster-general Ellen Fairclough. And it marked an end to Mr. Monogue's role as the city's senior letter carrier. This week he retired after walking more than 40,000 miles through Hamilton streets in those 47 years. At a special ceremony Postmaster A. B. Morris commende Mr. Monogue's cheerful disposition and devotion to duty over each one of those miles. Mr. Monogue delivered his first bag of mail in December, 1915. Since then he's had a route inseveral parts of the city. In the Kenilworth Avenue district, for instance, he delivered by horse and wagon over streets of cedar blocks. Once his horse almost collided with a train. In the Caroline and Hess Street North area, Mr. Monogue numbered among his customers, the notorious Rocco Perri, whose mysterious disappearance has never been solved. His next territory was the Mountain where for 11 years he daily walked 10 miles in an area bounded by Concession Stree, Fennel Avenue, Twenty-Third Street and Gage Avenue. Mr. Monogue reached the Mountain by taking the spur line on the incline. For eight months, however, he had to climb the steps twice a day when transportation was not available. For 19 years the old city hall and Market street were part of his route. He used to carry 1000 pieces of mail each day to city hall. More recently, he has delivered mail each day to stores and businesses in the heart of downtown Hamilton. |
| Note | circa 1920 | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Around 1920, the Cassin family was living at 112 Alpine Ave. Also around this time, we know that the Monogue family was living at 12 Hamilton Ave. (this address was given on Ann Minogue's death registration in 1924) whidh is a few blocks away. Tom was supposedly a friend of Catheine's brother, Bill. This proximity might have led to Catherine and Tom meeting and marrying in 1922. After they married they stayed in the same area, living on Concession Street and later E. 22nd Street., Principal=Catherine Winnifred Cassin |
| Marriage* | 21 November 1922 | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Age listed as 24 for Thomas and 26 for Catherine. Marriage performed by Rev. James A. Kirby, witnesses were Thomas Cassin and Agnes Monogue. This was the original Sacred Heart Church which was a wooden structure, that today stands behind the current church. Thomas and Catherine were the first couple to be married in the old church., Principal=Catherine Winnifred Cassin |
| Note* | 1924 | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Catherine lost her father in February of 1924 and Tom lost his grandfather in April of the same year., Principal=Catherine Winnifred Cassin |
| Address | 2 January 1927 | Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, They lived in a white wooden duplex house. Mrs. Grundy lived upstairs and they lived downsatirs. Both Mary and Pat were born here. When they moved Lizzie and Walt moved in and Shirley was born here., Principal=Catherine Winnifred Cassin |
| Address* | circa 1930 | 48 East 22nd Street, Hamilton, Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, It's possible that Betty, Catherine, and Madeline might have been born while at this address. Pat started school at Sacred Heart Elementary. |
