Birth*between 1792 and 1793 County Kildare, Ireland, This date of birth is based on the "age of 48" on his gravestone. The place of birth is also on the stone.
In coming up with a birthdate we have little to go on with John since he died before any of the censuses that listed a person's age were taken. His gravestone states he was 48 (died 07 Nov. 1841), so this would mean he was born between Nov. 1792 and Nov. 1793. However, church burial record states he was 51 which would push back the birthdate to Nov. 1789 - Nov. 1790. My best guess is that he was born 1790-1793. Given Julia’s age, it would make more sense if he was born in 1790 but it is hard to dispute an age on a gravestone, although we have seen mistakes on stones before.
Marriage*between 1812 and 1814 Ireland, Principal=Julia Duffy
Immigration*circa 1819 I believe that John and Julia probably married between 1812 and 1814 in Ireland they and the two girls (or maybe more children who died on the voyage) came to Quebec City from Ireland in 1819 and settled in Valcartier in late 1819 or early 1820. Valcartier was first settled about 1817. John O’Neill is not listed on the 1819 survey map., Principal=Julia Duffy
Land*11 October 1819 Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada, Request of James and John O'Neil addressed to Lewis [Louis] Foy for lots 18, 19, 22 and 23 located in the fifth concession in St. Gabriel. On the back of the letter, we can see that Lot 22 was promised to O'Neill himself, and that Lot 23 should be reserved for his brother. However, lot 19 appears to have been granted to Edward Sweeny., Principal=James O'Neill
Land*13 October 1819 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Lot #22 is granted to John and Lot #23 is "reserved for his brother in Europe". No mention in this document of Lot #18 or 19.
Land30 October 1820 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Statement to the Commissioners of the Jesuit Estates of Henry Dalton, John singst, John Sinclair and William Carigan, to the effect that John O'Neill (O'Nails, O'Nil) cut 18 acres of wood lots 22 and 23 in the fifth concession of the manor St. Gabriel.
Land13 November 1822 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada,

"To the worshipful the Commissioners for managing the Estates of the late Order of Jesuits in Canada

The Petition of James Sweeney and John O’Neil of Valcartier Humbly (?) that your petitioners are settled on lots of ground adjoining to four vacant lots in the first Concession of the Seigniory of St. Gabriel, which they have found to be for the most part an (?) swamp which is but in a few parts arable.

That your petitioners, in consequence of the lots not being distinctly laid out have made some improvements on the said lots in the firm belief that they were improving their own property.

Therefore your petitioners humbly pray that your worships will be pleased to take the whole case into their consideration and grant to them the before mentioned 4 Lots in the First Concession of St. Gabriel south side of the River which they have in part cleared and improved as aforesaid ….

Land2 April 1827 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Statement to the Commissioners of the Jesuit estates to the effect that John O'Neill (O'Neal) has cleared ten acres of land in Lot 22 and cut the wood, with Timothy Grass, Lot 22 and 23, McCartney, Ferdinand Murphy Thomas McMullian, Joseph Shea, John Shea, Robert Boyd and William Boyd, inhabitants of the fifth concession of the manor in Valcartier Saint-Gabriel.

(Witness) Death18 February 1834 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Aged nine months., Principal=John O'Neill
Death*7 November 1841 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Burial record states that John was the husband of Judith Duffy of Valcartier, aged 51 years, who died "yesterday". It's not clear as to where he is buried though because the burial record is from Ste. Catherine's, but he is listed on a gravestone with Julia Duffy in St. Gabriel's Cemetery in Valcartier., Witness=Julia Duffy
Burial*8 November 1841 St. Gabriel's Catholic Cemetery, Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada, From Gerry Neville:
"John O'Neill and Judith Duffy are buried in Valcartier. A few years ago a Mr. Griffin and a Mr. Conway, while visiting the cemetery, found the O'Neill monument thrown over the bank at the cemetery along with a number of other old broken monuments. I know that they retrieved the O'Neill monument that was split in two pieces." The stone states: "To the Memory of John O'Neil died Oct. 28, 1841, Aged 48 Years. A Native of Co. Kildare, Ireland. May his soul rest in peace. Amen."
