| Cen-Enum* | 1891 | Ingersoll, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, "Mary Sage", age 30, born Ontario, parents born Ireland, Catholic, can read and write, living with John and James O'Callaghan. Relationship to John is unreadable, however, it is believed this is his grandaughter., Principal=ONT Oxford Co Census 1891, Witness=John O'Callaghan |
| Residence* | between 1894 and 1895 | on Thames Street with her grandfather, John O'Callaghan, Ingersoll, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada |
| Death* | 1951 | |
| Burial* | 1951 | Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Ingersoll, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, I am making the assumption that Mary Ellen is the daughter of Redmond and Ellen Sage since she is buried in the same plot with Sarah B., their other daughter. The stone only states "Mary Ellen Sage, 1858 - 1951". |

| Land* | 1875 | North Norwich township, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, In the 1875, Historical Atlas of Oxford County, Redmond Sage owned 150 ac. in North Norwich township. This land in the Queen's Bush was usually distributed in the following way. You applied for a 50 acre conditional grant. You were then required to clear and plant crops on a predetermined part of the land parcel, and erect a substantial homestead. If you had accomplished this in 5 years, you were eligible to buy a further 50 acres at a bargain price. Since you needed the acreage in crops for a viable farm, and you needed bush for firewood and construction, you really had to make it work or lose all your hard work. |
