Birth*between 1798 and 1799 Ireland
Cen-Head*1825 Valcartier, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada, Denis is not listed on this census. I assume that the "Denis Cassin" listed on the map of 1819 of Valcartier is this Denis, son of Michael. Michael probably got a lot for his oldest son when they arrived from Ireland, but possibly Denis did not actually live on the lot until he married in 1829. In the 1831 census , Denis is listed beside Michael, which fits the lots listed on the 1819 map, so I believe the Denis on the map is this Denis and not another Denis Cassin.
Land*23 February 1828 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, "Denis Cassin bought from Hon. William Burns 4 lots of land containing 540 arpents for the sum of 340 pounds. This land had belonged to the late Jacob Pozer, before Nat. Berthelot & colleagues, 29 Aug. 1818. William Burns was a member of the Legislative Council."
Comment: This land was across from Majella Murphy's house on Murphy Road. It was expropriated in 1914. Denis paid a ot of money for it. Majella doesn't know if Denis actually lived on this piece of land. At the time lots were going for about 10 pounds. Each lot was about 90 arpents. An arpent is 192 feet long, an acre is 204 feet long, an arpent is about .85 of an acre.
Note1829 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Dennis Cassin is listed as one of the residents who was paid for working on building the oatmeal mill. It appears that he worked 48 days.
Land12 May 1829 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Notarial record #397 of Roger Lelievre show a Land Grant (cession) in the Seignory of St. Gabriel from John Stewart, Esq. to Denys Cassin, Lot 13 in the Third Concession: "Denys Cassin, farmer living in the parish of St. Ambroise...named Valcartier...a piece of land situated in the said Parish of the the Seignory on the Third Concession northwest of Jacques Cartier River being Number Thirten, being three arpents in front by thirty arpents in depth bordered on the said depth on the Second Concession, bordered on the northwest by Lot 14 and on the other side by Lot 12..." (this is about 575 ft by 5760 ft or about 76 acres)
Marriage*4 July 1829 St-Ambroise de la Jeune Lorette Catholic Church, Loretteville, Quebec County, Quebec, Canada, "...fourth of July, 1829...Denis Cassin, son of age, of Michael Cassin, farmer, and Margaret Kelly...and Mary Landrigan, daughter of age of Andrew Landrigan, farmer, and Mary Lynch, of Fossambault...in the presence of Michael Cassin, James Donohoe, Andrew Landrigan, and John Sullivan...", Principal=Mary Landrigan
Note*5 November 1830 Valcartier, Quebec, Canada, Denis Cassin was paid (along with many other residents) for his labour in building an oatmeal mill. He was paid 6-14-3 pounds.
