Permanent residence was Hamilton, Ontario and his father, Patrick is his nearest relative and he is living at 112 Alpine Av., in Hamilton. Thomas has been in the USA before from 1917-20 in Portland (assume this was in Maine) and he left in 1920 through the port of Buffalo. He was born in Valcartier, Quebec and can read and write and is not sure if he plans to stay in the US. He is 5'9" tall, brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion and weighs 150 pounds. The application contains his signature.

Appears he is travelling alone and the ticket cost $30. He had been in the USA before - to Saginaw, Michigan between 1882 and 1886. He intends to return home and not become a citizen. He is not a polygamist, anarchist, and has never been in prison or an almhouse. He is not travelling for purpose of employment. He is 5'8" tall, fair complexion, weighs 159 pounds and has brown eyes. He does not have a bag with him. The appliction contains his signature. It appears that Thomas is living at 160 Magoza Street but it is difficult to read the street name. He was living with his father, Patrick Cassin, next of kin at 370 Wentworth Street South in Hamilton, Ontario. He was born in Quebec on the 17 June 1898 (baptismal records state 1899) and was currently a student and single. He agreed to be vaccinated and had never been in the armed forces before and agreed to serve in the C.E.F. He signed his name William James Cassin.
The 173rd Battalion sailed to England in November, 1916 where on January 4, 1917 it was absorbed into the 2nd Reserve Battalion. The 173rd Battalion had one Officer Commanding: Lieut-Col. W. H. Bruce.
