| Anecdote* | This information was gathered from Patrick Monogue, grandson of Thomas Henry Monogue. Thomas Henry was a conservative (in the political sense) ans was well-known by the people in government. Pat thinks that is how his father Thomas John got a job at the post office at the young age of 19. Thomas Henry was a tailor and he worked at a shop on James Street. Later, he owned a small tailor shop on Concession Street. This shop he later turned into "Tom Monogue's Ice Cream Parlour". Marlene Pryor has a picture of the sign for the shop. Although, Patrick does not remember his grandfather having an ice cream store, he does remember him bringing big tins of ice cream to the picnics they would have at Concession Park. Agnes, Thomas's daughter was also a seamstress but she worked for a big tailor outfit on King Street. When Thomas Henry got older he sold the shop and went to work for the Liquor Control Board store at Barton and Ottawa. His health deteriorated and he became confused probably from atherosclerosis and he came to live with Pat's family on Huron Street for a while because grandma couldn't take care of him by herself. He eventually went back to live with grandma and his daughters on Kensington Street. He stayed in the upstairs bedroom and he used to say he heard a baby crying (which would have been Marlene, Dorothy's daughter) but they just told him he was imagining things because they didn't want to explain that Dorothy had a baby. He died in the upstairs bedroom and on the same day "Aunt Lizzie" (Gibbons Armstrong) also died. So Grandma lost both her husband and sister on the same day., Principal=Thomas Henry Monogue | |

| Birth* | circa 1805 | Ireland, This birthdate is based on 84 as age of death. However, his age during several censuses puts a great variation into his birthdates: 1851 Census - age 32 (1819), 1861 - age 40 (1821), 1871 - age 60 (1811), 1881 - age 70 (1811). |
| Land Grant* | 9 December 1843 | east half of Lot 31, Concession 3, King Township, York County, Ontario, Canada, This was a lease from the Canada Company (Transfer Type L) and would have been 50 acres. |
| Residence* | 9 December 1843 | King Township, Ontario, Canada |
| Misc* | 1844 | Newmarket, Ontario, Canada |
| Marriage* | circa 1846 | Principal=Margaret Wilson |
| Residence | November 1847 | Adjala Township, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada |
| Land Grant* | November 1847 | east half of Lot 30, Concession 2, Adjala township, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada, It appears that Michael Gibbons, who we think was Patrick's brother, bought this parcel of land from him (Transfer Type L which is a previous lease from the Canada Company)., Principal=Patrick Gibbons |
| Land Grant | 16 October 1850 | Wellesley Township, Ontario, Canada, According to Thomas Hunter, Michael and Anthony settled in the Queens Bush which is now Wellesley township. They had land on Lot 10, Conc. 12WS, about 2km north of Linwood. It was a plot of land that had been previously owned (transfer type A). This would have been 100 acres. It appears that Anthony and John went with Michael to help him work and clear the land. |
| Census* | 1851 | Michael and his wife Margaret are living with their 3 children, James, Mary Jane and Michael. He is listed as 32 years old, which would make his birthdate 1819. |
| (Witness) Death | before 1861 | Ontario, Canada, Principal=Michael Gibbons |
| Census | 1861 | Wellesley Township, Ontario, Canada, The evaluation of his farm was: 10 lots held, 100 total acres, 45 under cultivation, 40 under crops, 5 under pasture, 55 under wood. Cash value of farm - $850.00 Cash value of implements, machinery - $140.00 total Value of all Livestock - $170.00 20 acres of spring wheat, 420 bushels potatoes, 4 acres peas - 80 bushels. 5 acres oats - 100 bushels. 1/2 acre potatoes - 50 bushels. 1 acre turnips - 100 bushels. 3 tons of hay. wool - 24 lbs. maple sugar - 40 lbs. bulls or oxen over 3 years of age - 3, steers or heifers under 3 years - 3, milk cows - 3, sheep - 9, pigs - 7, butter 80 lbs. Note from Alex Pryor - The woodlot would represent saleable wood as well a building material and fuel, as well as the Waterloo/Wellington County sugarbush maple stands which still largely remain. The larger crop quantities would be mostly for sale, the smaller potato patch would be for home use. The maple sugar, butter, milk of only three cows and flannel would be mostly for personal use. The oxen were required because Michael had not been able or willing to switch over to the more desirable horses he later owned. The heifers under 3 years would be for meat, as would the sheep and pigs. The heavy, largely manual work of this family would have demanded a high protein diet, including large quantities of meat. |
| Census | 1861 | Michael and his wife Margaret are lilving with their 6 children, James, Mary Jane, Margaret, David, Francis, and Sarah, his mother-in-law, Jane Wilson, and a relative, John Gibbons. Michael is listed as 40 years old - this would put his birthdate as 1821. |
| Census | 1871 | Wellesley Township, Ontario, Canada, Michael is listed as age 60 (birthdate 1811), born in Ireland, Catholic, and working as a farmer. |
| Census | 1881 | Wellesley Township, Ontario, Canada, Michael, age 70, and his wife Margaret, age 61, are living with their 4 children: David, age 25; Francis, age 23; Sarah, age 23; and Joseph, age 18; and Margaret's mother, Jane Wilson, age 90., Principal=Margaret Wilson |
