(1794 - 19 December 1855)
| Last Edited | Jul 19, 2004 |
| Name Variation | Gibbins, The tombstone for Thomas is spelled Gibbins but the others in the same plot are spelled Gibbons. | |
| Birth* | 1794 | Ireland, This birthdate is based on the age of 61 yrs on his tombstone. The place of birth is also on the tombstone. The town of birth is possibly Castlebar, according to research by Nancy O'Donnell. |
| Emigration* | 1810 | Thomas' tombstone states that he emigrated to Canada in 1810. Thomas would have been a young boy of 14, so the question is raised as to whether he came with other family members rather than alone. Researcher Nancy O'Donnell says that Thomas went back to Ireland and returned in the 1830's. It's possible that as a young boy the Canada Company guidelines were to difficult to follow, so he might have returned to Ireland, to marry and convince others to come back and work together to clear the land, log and build houses which would have been hard to achieve on your own. |
| Marriage* | Principal=Nancy Holleran | |
| Note* | 1840 | with his two sons, Lawrence and John. All three eventually purchased separate tracts of land in West Gwillimbury. |
| Marriage* | This was his second marriage and it is assumed that his first wife, Mary, had died in Ireland., Principal=Mary Grahen | |
| Death* | 19 December 1855 | Ontario, Canada, The tombstone states that Thomas was accidentally killed by the fall of a tree. |
