Transcription of release of any dower claim by Sarah Galloway in the land sale from Benjamin Galloway to John Piggott for 150 acres in the Lynches Creek area of Craven County, SC, dated 15 October 1771

This indenture made the 15th day of October 1771 in the eleventh year of the reign of King George the 3rd, between Benjamin Galloway planter of Craven County and his wife of the one part and John Piggott of the aforesaid county of the other part whereas the said Benjamin Galloway and his wife by a ______ indenture being made the day of (blank, no date entered) 1771 for the consideration therein mentioned did bargain and will unto John Piggott a parcel or tract of land in Craven County granted by his Majesty to the above named Benjamin Galloway as appears in the original grant thereof bearing date the 24th day of August 1770 butting and bounding as aforesaid to have and to hold unto him the above John Piggott his heirs and assigns from this day before the date of the said __________________ unto this end ____ ____ whole ___ __ ___ ensuing to the intent that by interest thereof in ___ for transferring ___ into possession and now in use in this province by the said John Piggott may be in the actual possession of the said John Piggott butting & bounding the aforesaid ______________ inheritance thereof to him and his heirs to the use of them and their assigns forever as by the ___ indenture ______________ that the said Benjamin Galloway bequeath? totally free and unconstrained consent aforesaid __________ and good liking of her the aforesaid Sarah Galloway his wife testified by her signing and sealing and by her being part of this presents for and in the consideration of the sum of ten shillings current money of the Province of him to in hand paid by the said John Piggott _____ before the sealing and delivery of these presents truly paid the receipt _______ whereby they do hereby acknowledge ______ thereof at every part and parcel thereof do acquit ______ and forever discharge the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns forever to the said Benjamin Galloway have granted bargained sold delivered ________ and confirmed by these presents as fully clearly and absolutely grant bargain sell deliver ________ and confirm unto aforesaid John Piggott in his actual possession now being by __________ indenture made to him for one year ____________ time of the said _____ and to his heirs and assigns the aforesaid tract of land lying in Craven County Province aforesaid and butting and bounding as aforesaid the tract and parcel of land containing one hundred and fifty acres together with all the houses edifices and buildings _________ timber and timber trees _________ privilege of appurtenance whatsoever to the said tract of the one hundred fifty acres of land standing growing belonging or in any miss appertaining ____________________ and remaindered thereof ___ every part thereof to have and to hold the said 150 acres of land and all of singular? the ___ forebargained premises appurtenances and any part of _______ the rest onto the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns to the only ____ benefit ___ to him the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns forever to the said Benjamin Galloway and Sarah Galloway his wife for themselves or either of them their ____ or their heirs __ do covenant promise grant and agree to ___ with the ___ the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns by these presents in manner and ___ following that is to say that he the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns by these presents shall ___ from time to time from henceforth and forever hereafter lawfully __ and ___ have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said tract of land containing in the whole 150 acres of all and singular the forebargained premises and appurtenances in every part and parcel thereof ___ trouble molestation oviation or interruption of him the said Benjamin Galloway his wife or either of them thereon or either of their heirs __ or assigns or any other person or ___ lawfully claiming by ___ or under them by any manner or ways and means or pretense whatsoever that the said tract of land containing 150 acres and all singular the forebargained premises and appurtenances and every part and parcel thereof now and from time to time and at all times forever hereafter shall and may stand remain abide and continue unto the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns freely and clearly discharged ____ acquired or otherwise by them the said Benjamin Galloway and Sarah his wife their heirs ___ and assigns said and aforesaid ____ all ___ former and other gifts grants bargains sales judgments executions ____ of the said Benjamin Galloway and Sarah Galloway his wife their heirs ___ and assigns the aforesaid tract of land containing 150 acres butting and bounding as aforesaid unto the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns against all manner of person or possession whatsoever shall and will warrant and defend forever by these presents and she the said Sarah Galloway being fully satisfied and contented with this presents ___ and conveyances and every matter cause and things therein mention and also for and in consideration of the sum of ten shillings current money to her in hand paid have ___ release forever quitted claims and by these presents do fully clearly freely voluntarily ___ release forever quit claim onto the said John Piggott his heirs and assigns forever all her estate claim right title and interest which she the said Sarah Galloway ever have now or hereafter may ___ to have claim challenge or demand by reason of her dower ___ or to the forebargained premises or appurtenances or any part of parcel thereof by that from having claim challenging or demanding right title or interest thereunto she the said Sarah Galloway shall quit be dissolved and forever ___ by these presents in witness ___ the parties first above named to these presents in ___ hereunto set their hand ____ and seals this day first above written ___

...... continues: Be it remembered that on the third day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand one hundred & seventy one before me John Troup his Majesty’s Justice aforesaid to keep the peace for the said county personally appeared Thomas Welch who being duly sworn maketh oath that he was present and saw the within named Benjamin Galloway sign seal and as his active deed deliver the within indenture ___ uses and purposes therein mentioned that he also Benjamin Galloway sign his mark to the receipt written on the back of the said indenture and that he ___ together with Nathaniel Piggott and Charles Campbell subscribe their names as witnesses to the due execution of the signature and the said receipt sworn this day and year above written before me ___ this 9th day of January 1772
