Resident: Henry Lenton Merritt
Resident: James B. Merritt

Note1870Precinct 12, Coffee County, Alabama, USA; An Angeline Merritt appeared on the 1860 census of Coffee County as follows:
"Charles Merritt", head, age 26, born Georgia;
"Angeline Merritt", age 27, born Georgia;
"Sarah J. Merritt", age 4, born Georgia;
"Mary A. Merritt", age 1, born Georgia.

It's possible this Angeline is the one who later collected a Civil War Widow's Pension. Charles Merritt was not found in the 1870 census in Alabama or surrounding states.3
Military*27 June 1874Florida, USA; Angeline Merritt applied as widow for pension based on her husband Henry Merritt's Civil War Union Army service in Company D, 1st Regiment, Fla. Cav, application # 216151. The record on fold3.com and ancestry.com has only the index card and no other information. National Archives likely has the application.4,5
Deceased: Jacob Henry Merritt
Noteone researcher has Jacob Henry Merritt married to Angeline Woodcock Smith6
Note*1907Geneva County, Alabama, USA; an "Angeline Merritt" appeared on receipts for Confederate pension in Geneva County, Alabama, between January 1907 and July 1911. This is the widow of a Charlie Merritt for service in the Confederate Army, and not of Henry Merritt who served in the Union Army.7,8
Census*1910St. Paul, Geneva County, Alabama, USA; Note - I now believe this is a different Angeline Merritt and not Angeline Woodcock Merritt, widow of Jacob Henry Merritt.

This censys: "Angeline Merritt", age 80, widowed, born Georgia, parents born Georgia, appears in the household of Sara Deese, head of household, age 59, born Alabama, parents born Georgia, widowed, 6 children born, 5 surviving. Also in the household was Colie Merritt, son, age 13, born Alabama, parents born Georgia. Angeline is identified as mother of Sara.

It is not known if this Angeline is the widow of Jacob Henry Merritt. This Sara appeared in the 1930 census in the household of her son "Caley C. Deese" and his family.9
