extrs: wife BARBARY, JAMES KENAN, WILLIAM DICKSON, JOSEPH DICKSON

wit: JACOB WELLS, WILLIAM (sign) KNOWLES, WILLIAM WELLS
signed: Timmothy (sign) Murphey"1,4
Cen-Head*1800NC Duplin Co Census 1800; Duplin County, North Carolina, USA; female age 45 or over, with 9 slaves, adjacent to William Murphy household. This William Murphy is likely the brother of Barbary's deceased husband Timothy.2
Will*1802Duplin County, North Carolina, USA; The will names slave Yellow Jupiter. It was entered in court in the July Term 1802. "Yellow Jupiter have leave to choose his own Master and that he shall have the mare and colt and three cows and calves and one yearlin, one plough, one ax, one drawing knife, one hoe, one cart, six plates, four boles, two mugs, one pot." extr: brother Frederick Wells; wit: John Matthis, Mary (sign) Murphy, Mary (sign) Brown; signed: Barbara (sign) Murphy.

Note that Jupiter was then in 1810 ordered by the court sold at public auction. This was related to the estate of William Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy, both deceased, and proceeds were directed to be used to benefit minor Henry Murphy, son of William and Elizabeth. This must mean that Jupiter remained part of the estate until 1810, and it seems to contradict the wishes of Barbary.3
Death*1802Duplin County, North Carolina, USA3
Probate*19 July 1802Duplin County, North Carolina, USA; "Last Will & Testament of Barbara Murphy Exhibited and proved by John Matthis, one of the subscribing witnesses & at same time Frederick Wells, Ex'r named in said Will, Qualified." The court also ordered the Executor to sell as much of the estate as sufficient to discharge debts.5
Probate*20 January 1803Timothy Murphy; Duplin County, North Carolina, USA; Court order recorded concurrence with a division of Negroes of the Estate of Tim Murphy in accordance with his will, with wife Barbary having died.5
