JournalIntro* Rosa (Rosanna) Brannon of Duplin County, North Carolina is the earliest identified Brannon ancestor of the Oklahoma Balkcom line. I have not identified her husband or her maiden name. Her son Rosier lived most of his adult life in Henry County, Alabama. His daughter Rose Anne married Brantley Balkcom in 1865. Brantley's son John Ira Balkcom was the first Balkcom to move to Oklahoma.

Comment* Consider possibility that Rosa's maiden name was Rozier, or that it was her mother's maiden name. Look for Rozier/Rosier family names in SC and NC, and given names John, Judith, Martin, Elijah (Rosa's children). There is for example a Martin S. Rozier born Dec 1888 buried in Scots Cemetery south of Bethune, SC. Rose or Rosa was a frequently used given name with surname Rozier.

Two freed slaves, called Uncle Abe and Aunt Patsey, stayed on after the end of the war, and helped Argent and the children farm the place".2
