| Military* | say 1776 | American Revolution, Continental Army, Francis Marion's Brigade, South Carolina, USA; "Peter Galloway", non-commissioned officer or private in the Revolutionary War||It's not confirmed that this Peter Galloway is the same as the one appearing in the census of 1790 in Lancaster County, but seems probable since Marion's Brigade was raised and operated in eastern SC for the most part. The Gregg reference has Marion raiding and fighting in 1780 in the Lynches Creek area, citing for example the Battle of Port's Ferry.3,4 |
| (Witness) Military | July 1780 | William Galloway; American Revolution, South Carolina Militia Volunteers, Hanging Rock, Camden District, South Carolina, USA; "William Galloway, 20 days in the Cavalry under Major Robert Crawford at Hanging Rock". Peter and William Galloway both served with Robert Crawford. Hanging Rock Creek merges with Little Lynches Creek about 5 miles SE of Kershaw.5 |
| Military | 4 August 1780 | American Revolution, South Carolina Militia Volunteers, Lancaster County, South Carolina, USA; "Peter Galloway ... paid for 40 days (25 June to Aug 4) in the cavalry under Capt George Dunlap and General Sumter at Hanging Rock". It seems likely that the Lancaster County Peter Galloway of 1790 is the one with this Revolutionary War service record because of his service record links to William Galloway #1730, and his duty in the Lancaster/Kershaw areas. Hanging Rock is about 23 miles north of Camden. On August 1 General Thomas Sumter's militia staged an unsuccessful attack on British forces in this area, and there was another engagement on August 6. These involved forces of a few hundred on either side. Casualties were high, particularly on the British side.6 |

| (Witness) Census | 2 November 1850 | Anna Parrish, AL Henry Co Census 1850; Southern District, HH #961, Henry County, Alabama, USA; Household was next to Eleazer Galloway family. Complete household: "Anna Parrish", age 70, born in SC; "WE Galaway", male age 22, farmer, born in Alabama, married within the year, attended school within the year; "Jane Galaway", age 23, born in Georgia; "Elly Galaway", male age 4, born in Alabama. WE Galloway is William E. Galloway, Eleazer and Leaty Galloway's son, living with Leaty's older sister Anna Parrish. The young boy Elly appears to be listed as age 4 (legibility) but I suspect this is a census error and he is really a baby and son of the recently married WE and Jane, and is named after his grandfather Eleazer who at times went by Elly.6 |
