| JournalIntro* | James E. Balkcom; James Balkcom and Mary (Polly) (maiden name probably Murphy) of Duplin County, North Carolina are the earliest identified Balkcom ancestors of the Oklahoma Balkcom line. James' parents are unknown and will I think be difficult to prove. I believe that he descends from the Alexander Balkcom line in Providence, Rhode Island in the 1600s. See the main page of this site www.pbalkcom.com/gwb for my reasoning. Also see there a detailed biography of James. I believe that his wife Mary is a Murphy from the Duplin County, NC area but I have no definitive proof. James Balkcom married Mary in around 1832 and moved to Lowndes County, Georgia and in a few years on to Dale County, Alabama. Their son Brantley had a son John Ira Balkcom who shortly after his own marriage moved his family to Oklahoma. |

| Birth* | between 1761 and 1770 | Birthdate based on guess that Tymothy is oldest male in household in 1830 census, but another male there 50-59, could instead be Tymothy. If so that would make birthdate between 1770-75. Certainly no later than 1775 based on 1820 census.2 |
