Journal*James Mathews of Georgia is the earliest identified Mathews ancestor of the Oklahoma Balkcom line. James' son William E. Mathews had a daughter Josephine who married Brantly Balkcom. Their son John Ira Balkcom moved to Oklahoma in the early 1900s.

Many have done research on this Mathews line and I've taken some of the family relationship information on this site from their work.
