Journal*Elizabeth (?); Christopher Baldwin (1807-1850) and wife Elizabeth of Stewart County, Georgia, are the earliest known Baldwin ancestors of the southwest Oklahoma Balkcoms and Baldwins. Christopher and his brothers and sister were by one account orphaned at an early age and came to Georgia from Tennessee. First official records found so far show Christopher and his brothers Augustus and William as young heads of household in Randolph County, Georgia in 1830. Christopher and Elizabeth had married in around 1828. Christopher was well known in Stewart County and was Justice of the Peace for a time. He died at the age of 43, and Elizabeth and many of their chidlren moved to Dale County Alabama within a couple of years. Bryant F. Baldwin, one of their sons, married Josephine Mathews, and their daughter Ida Lucinda Baldwin married John Ira Balkcom. John and Ida moved to Oklahoma in the early 1900s.
