NEWFOUNDLAND COUPLE MARRIED AT LOS ANGELES

The Church of the Blessed Sacrament was the scene of a charming wedding yesterday at 3 p.m. when Miss Mary MORRIS, daughter of Judge and Mrs. MORRIS of St. John’s, Newfoundland, became the bride of F. Regis BURKE, also of Newfoundland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Fr. STROCK in the presence of a number of friends and relatives.

The bride, who looked very charming, was gowned in champagne colored lace with hat to match, and carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses and maidenhair fern. She was attended by Miss Jeanne TRAPNELL, who wore a pretty blue silk retine. The Hon. W. J. ELLIS gave the bride away. Following the wedding there was a reception held at the home of Hon. Donald MORISON, K.C., and Mrs. MORISON at 2123 Beachwood Drive, Hollywood. With others attending there was about twenty-five friends from Newfoundland.

The bridegroom, who has lately come to Los Angeles, is a young man of exceptional talent and ability and occupies a position of responsibility in the Citizens Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Burke will reside in their new home, 2026c Hollywood Boulevard.

Among the guest from Newfoundland were F. C. BERTEAU, who is Auditor-General of Newfoundland. Mrs. BERTEAU, Miss Marian FRASER, Mrs. J. H. WATSON, Mr. and Miss TRAPNELL, Charles SIMMS, Hon. W. J ELLIS and Mr. and Mrs. GRIFFITHS.

Apparent age is 23 years, and he is 5 ft. 7 1/2 inches tall with a chest girth when expanded of 38 inches with an expansion of 4 inches. He has fair complexion, grey eyes and brown hair and is Catholic. The attestation paper was signed in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.2,3

In the name of God Amen This is the last will and testament of me Michael Burke of St. Jacques Fortune Bay in the Island of Newfoundland, being in sound health of mind.
First. I give my soul to God and I desire that my body be buried according to the rite of the Holy Roman Catholic Church of which I live and die an obedient child.
Second I will and desire that my executor hereinafter named as soon after my death as will be convenient will pay out of my estate the following sums namely:

1st To any priest or priests whom he shall choose the sum of Seven hundred dollars $700.00 for funeral expenses a monument over my grave, and to procure Masses for the benefit of my soul.
2nd To my niece Susan wife of Michael Penny the sum of four hundred dollars $400.00.

To Francis Regis Burke of St. Jacques the sum of Four thousand dollars $4000.00. In the event of the death of the above named Francis Regis Burke before coming of age I will that my executor divide the residue of my estate which would have gone to the said Francis Regis Burke equally among the surviving children of my brother Denis Burke

Note: The wills in those will books are NOT actual wills. They are hand-written copies of a, "last will and testament," written by the court clerk, after the death of the testator, when the executor presented them to the court for probate. The court clerk didn't list the signatures at the bottom, he (or she) just put them in the book in whatever order they were in, on the original document, no spacing most of the time, no punctuation. The originals were kept by the executor.

CROIX- Mary Ellen (nee Butler)- Passed peacefully away, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Health Sciences Center, on March 20, 2007, Mary Ellen St. Croix, of St. Mary’s, aged 63 years. Predeceased by parents Joseph and Isabell Butler, father-in-law Clifford St. Croix and brother-in-law Ed St. Croix. Leaving to mourn her loving husband Bernard St. Croix; daughters: Rhonda Bursey (Tom) and Lisa George (Glen); son Bernard St. Croix (Phyllis); sisters: Teresa Butler (Wayne Colson) and Betty Chamberlain (Don); brother William Butler (Doreen); grandchildren: Rylee, Devin, Mark and Ryan; mother-in-law Alice St. Croix; brothers-in-law: Dan (Josephine), Brendan (Daphne), Darrell (Valerie), Keith (Mavis); sisters-in-law: Jean (John), Irene (Arno), Marilyn (Tommy), Karen (Bert), Anna (Gerard), Elaine (Gerard); as well as many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends too numerous to name. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at St. Clares 6 West, Health Sciences - 4 South B and to beloved sister Teresa for the care and compassion you have shown in the last five weeks. Resting at Gibbons Funeral Home, St. Mary's on Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 2-4 pm (FAMILY ONLY) and 7-9 pm and Friday, March 23, 2007, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.
