Quirk 87 North Sydney It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Michael Augustus Quirk, age 87, on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in North Sydney, Michael was the son of the late Alexander and Florence (Hunt) Quirk. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. In his younger years, Mike worked at the Coal Pier in North Sydney, later with the department of public works for the Town of North Sydney and finally, for many years as custodian at St. Mary’s School, until his retirement. His family was his greatest joy and his top priority, but he also loved hunting and salmon fishing in the Margaree . He was as an avid Montreal Canadians fan. He is survived by his large family, five daughters Carol Quirk, North Sydney, Linda Phillips, Kingston, NS., Marlene (David) Farrell, Georges River, Florence (Leo) Oakes, North Sydney, Margaret (Paul) Samms, Sydney Mines, his seven sons, William (Willena), Florence, Wayne (Patricia), North Alton, NS., Glen (Heather), Oromocto, NB, Albert (Mary), Leitches Creek, Roger (Janie), North Sydney, Terry, Waterville, NS., Alex (Karen-Jean), North Sydney. Also surviving are his 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, his sister, Madeleine Rouleau, Ajax, ON., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marguerite (King) Quirk in 1989, his grandson Monty Farrell, son-in-law Gary Phillips, his sisters Eva Robinson, Margaret Perry, Susan Keeping, Agnes Hall, Josephine Bond, Gladys Campbell, Florence McGuire, and brothers William, George, David and Alex Quirk. Visitation for Michael will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations in memory of Mike may be made to the Haley Street Adult Service Centre, North Sydney, or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com. Quirk 59 North Sydney It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Richard Stephen Quirk, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in North Sydney, Richard was the son of the late Josephine Quirk. He was employed as a truck driver with Cantwell Excavating & Trucking. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played baseball with the “Old Dogs” with the senior men’s league and hockey with the Sydney Mines Ramblers Oldtimers Team. He also enjoyed woodworking and most of all spending time with family. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. Richard is survived by his wife Karen (Gillis) Quirk; his two daughters Heather Quirk and Valerie Quirk (Darren), both of North Sydney, his son Stephen Quirk (Leanne Tattrie), Coxheath; his seven grandchildren Mitchell, Abby, Lyndon, Dylan, Samuel, Priya and Paisley. He is also survived by his brother Sandy Bond (Debbie), Halifax and two sisters Monica Boudreau, Bras d’Or and Tania Bond, North Sydney, a number of nieces and nephews, by his mother-in-law Roseanne Gillis. Besides his mother Josephine, he was predeceased by a sister Norma Bond and his father-in-law Howard Gillis. Visitation for Richard will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Cremation will follow and a funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.2 |
