(Witness) Death11 June 1956 Detroit, Michigan, United States; From the Ingersoll Tribune: "MISS O'CALLAGHAN PASSES SUDDENLY The sudden passing of Miss May O'Callaghan at the residence of Claude Hughes, 167 John Street, on Monday, came as a distinct shock to her scores of friends. Miss O'Callaghan who passed away in Detroit and had not returned to her home. In her apparent usual health, a heart attack was said to have caused her sudden passing. With her sister, Miss O'Callaghan had resided in Detroit for more than 25 years and for a period of 22 years, had been a secretary for the Chrysler Corporation, from which she had retired in 1952. Born in Ingersoll, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George O'Callaghan, and received her education at the Sacred Heart Separate School and the Ingersoll Collegiate Institute, and was held in the highest esteem by a wide circle of friends here as well as in Detroit, and her untimely passing is deeply regretted. Left to mourn her passing are two cousins, Thomas O'Callaghan and Marguerite Ryan of Detroit. The funeral was held from the Fred S. Newman Funeral Home, 125 Duke St., on Wednesday morning at 8: 15 o'clock to the Church of the Sacred Heart, where requiem high mass was sung at 8:30 o'clock by Rev. Fr. A. Fuerth. The large number of mass cards and beautiful floral tributes bore silent testimony to the high esteem in which Miss O'Callaghan was held. The casket bearers were Claude Hughes, Molply Hughes, Percy Desmond, Larry McDonald, Michael Murray and James Hanlon. Interment was made in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. O'Donnell and Marie Risch O'Donnell. She married Donnell P. O'Callaghan on September 26, 1953. Janet, a devoted mother and Catholic, loved life events. She enjoyed celebrating with her family at weddings, religious ceremonies, parties and holidays. She had a fun, festive spirit and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She truly enjoyed conversations with family and friends regarding their lives, politics and current affairs. Beloved wife of the late Donnell for 49 years, dear mother of Ellen, Kathleen Hickey (Patrick), Donnell, Jr. (Susan), Maureen Biskup (Rob), Patty, Thomas (Kathleen), Michael, Kevin (Jacqueline), Megan DeTurris (Vincent), Matthew (Leila) and the late Michael Patrick. Cherished Bama of Robert John, Jennifer, Lauren and Michael Joneja, Bridget, Sean and Gillian Hickey, Robbie, Allison and Andrew Biskup, Elly, Brendan and Connor De Turris and Donnell III (Alexandra), James (Rebecca), Brian, Amie, Ryan, Eimile, Nolan, Miriam and Constantine O'Callaghan and the late Erin Hickey. Sister of Carol Greene (the late Laurence) and the late Dorothy Dumsa (the late Alfred), Elaine Joliat (the late Thomas), Raymond "Bud" O'Donnell (Barbara) and Michael O'Donnell (the late Sharon). Family will receive friends Thursday, 3 - 8 p.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (between 13-14 Mile), 248-549-0500.
