The Shannon Family

The Municipality of “Shannon” was named after Michael Shannon (husband of Alice Tracey)
because he used to deliver the mail to the settlers once a week from Quebec City. The only present-day descendants
that I know of are located in the Peterborough, Ontario area. The research on the family is still quite preliminary.

NOTE: Michael Shannon was the first person to bring the mail (about once a week)
to the settlers in the Ste-Catherine’s area from Quebec City. In 1905 a Post Office opened
in the area; it was called the Shannon Post Office named after Michael Shannon.
