From records of Notary Philippe Huot
Record No. 8567

On this day, the thirteenth of December one thousand eight hundred and eighty one, before us the undersigned Notaries Public for the Province of Quebec residing at the City of Quebec, personally came and appeared Mr. John Knox, farmer, residing at the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being in good bodily health and of sound and perfect mind, memory and understanding requested us the said Notaries to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he instantly dictated and named unto us the said Notaries as follows, to wit:

I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Janet Mather all the property real and personal, moveable and immoveable, without any exception nor reserve whatsoever, which I may die possessed of at the time of my decease, to have and to hold the same unto her in full & absolute property hereby appointing her my sole universal legatee.

I do hereby appoint my said wife Executrix of this my present last will, hereby revoking & making null and void all former wills and codicils heretofore by me made, declaring the present to be my only true last will and testament.

It was thus made and dictated by the said John Knox unto us the said Notaries on the day and year first above written and the present last will & testament having been read over in full to the said Testator by Mtre. Philippe Huot, one of us the said Notaries, in the presence of Mtre. Edward George Cannon the other Notary who assisted and was present during the whole execution hereof, he the said John Knox, testator, declared that he had perfectly heard and understood the same and found it to contain his true last will and testament and therefore persisted therein.

Thus done and executed at Quebec in the office of Mtre. Philippe Huot, one of the said Notaries, on the day and year first above written, under the number eight thousand five hundred and sixty seven, the said John Knox, testator, having signed with and in the presence of the said Notaries, who have also both signed with & in the presence of each other and of the said Testatrix these presents having been first only read according to law.
