On this seventeenth day of March one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, before me Cyrille Renaud, Public Notary residing at Loretteville, undersigned, personally appeared Thomas Brown, Farmer, residing in the Parish of St. Gabriel of Valcartier, who being of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding hath requested me the said Notary to write down and receive in due form of law his last will and testament which he has declared in manner and form following, that is to say:

 

1 I most willingly resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God, my Creator, in the humble hope that he will receive it to his favor through the sole merits and intercession of Jesus Christ, my Saviour.

 

2 I desire that all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses be paid by my Executor hereinafter named.

 

3 I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Agnes Ireland, all my moveable and immoveable properties whatsoever, wherever the same may be found and to whatever the same shall amount, hereby constituting my said wife my universal legatee.

 

4 I nominate and appoint my said wife as Executrix of this my will and testament and I revoke all will and testament I may have heretofore made and I declare the present to be my only true last will and testament.

 

Done and passed at Loretteville under Notarial Number six thousand and eighty eight. After the reading of the said will by the Notary to the Testator in presence of Jules Falardeau, Merchant, and Alphonse Alain, both of the Parish of St. Ambroise of Jeune Lorette, the Testator, the Notary and the witnesses have signed in the presence of each other.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom:  Thomas died on the 29th of January, 1921, seven years later.  He was reportedly 76 years old.  His wife outlived him.
