Last Will of Margaret Duffy

This is the last Will and Testament of me, Margaret Duffy, wife of Patrick Doyle of the Parish of St. Catherine de Fossambault in the District of Quebec - First, I will and desire that I may be decently buried whereever my Executor herein after named may think proper - And I give and bequeath unto my son Bernard Doyle, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns all my real and personal estate whatsoever or wheresoever for his own absolute use and benefit, with this proviso that my said son Bernard Doyle do take care after my death of my beloved mother, Mary Mallony, wife of Bernard Duffy by whom I have acquired the present property to whom I bequeath unto my said son Bernard Doyle - and that my said son Bernard do also take care of his Father, my beloved husband and also his brothers and sisters, provided they wish to reside and abide with him . The property that I bequeathed to my son Bernard Doyle appears by the Will of my mother Mary Mallony passed before Mtre. R. Lelièvre Notary Public, the eight day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty one. And I further appoint my said son Bernard Doyle to be the sole Executor of this my will hereby revoking all other wills made by me at any time heretofore, In witness whereof I the said Margaret Duffy have hereunto set my hand and signature this eighteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and fifty three.

 

Signed the above named Margaret Duffy, as and for her last Will and testament in the presence of us, present at the same time, who in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunder subscribed our names as attesting witnesses thereto.

Notes by Patricia Balkcom:  Margaret died three months later on October 14th at the reported age of 46 years.  Bernard was her oldest living child – aged 25.  Margaret and Patrick had 14 children, and at the time of her death, 12 were living, aged 1 year through 25 years.
