The Wellington Leader June 23, 1983

Mrs. Pearl Franks, who over many years was active in Wellington's civic and community life, died at 1:22 p.m. Sunday, June 19 in Collingsworth General Hospital. She was 90 years of age and a resident of Thomas Nursing Center. Mrs. Franks and her husband, the late Walter R. Franks, came to Wellington. He established Franks Furniture, and she worked with him in this business until they retired. A devoted member of 1st United Methodist church, she was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service, now United Methodist Women, and served on its grounds beautification committee.

She belonged to the Home Demonstration Club in which she was winner of many awards, and in Wellington Garden Club. She helped with the annual Flower Shows and was a consistent winner with her entries.

The former Pearl Frances Hawn, she was born in Missouri, the daughter of Daniel and Sarah Moyers Hawn. She and Mr. Franks were married January 30, 1918, at Fredericktown, Mo. The couple lived in Blue Mountain, Ark., a year before coming to Wellington.

Mrs. Franks is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bill (Vernene) Day of Comanche; a granddaughter, Mrs. Anne Watson and her four children of Ferno, Varese, Italy. Two nieces who formerly lived here are Mrs. Odel (Etoile) Holley of Friona and Mrs. Delbert (Bernie Anna) Warren of Amarillo.
