CROIX, Alfred "Ralph" - A WWII Veteran of the British Navy and Captain of Boston Commercial Fishing Vessels. Ralph St. Croix, 83, of South Weymouth, MA. passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 27, 2004 in the presence of his beloved wife, family and friends. Born Nov. 6, 1920 in St. Mary's Bay, Newfoundland where he was raised and educated, he joined the British Navy in 1939 and served on the H.M.S. Rodney where he embarked on numerous convoys and partook in such famous battles as the sinking of the Bismark. He was a commercial fisherman and a licensed master on the fishing vessels "Massachusetts", "Baystate" and was on the "Old Colony" until his retirement in 1978. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 50 years, Madeline (Greene) St. Croix; three sons: Francis J. St. Croix and his wife Jay of Halifax, Ralph M. St. Croix and his wife Betty Ann of East Bridgewater, Kevin G. St. Croix and his wife Debbie of Weymouth; three daughters: Linda M. St. Croix-Toner and her husband Jim of Hanover, Ann Marie Rossman and her husband Jerry of Braintree, Patricia L. Critch and her husband Rich of Halifax. Also sadly missed by twenty-one grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a surviving brother: Gordon St. Croix of St. Mary's, NFLD; five sisters: Betty DeAngelis of Revere, Philomena Yeo of Billerica, Edna Dunphy and Genevieve Kavanaugh both of Ontario and Theresa Tobin, St. Mary's, NFLD. Predeceased by his parents Francis and Monica St. Croix; brothers: Charles, Edgar, Patrick and sister: Marie White and Baby Frances St. Croix. Funeral from the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, MA. At 809 Main St. (Rte. 18 opp. South Shore Hospital), Thursday at 8:00 A.M. Funeral Mass to follow in the St. Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth, at 9 o'clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday evening 4:00-8:00 p.m. Interment Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth. Passed peacefully away at Presentation Convent, Cathedral Square, St. John's on Saturday, June 13, 2015, aged 86 years. Predeceased by her parents Catherine and James St. Croix of Point La Haye, St. Mary's, her brothers Andrew (Isabel), Ignatius, Allan (Bridget), Augustine, Stephen (Mary), Michael (Lucina); her sisters, Nora (Peter) Follett, and Christina. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life are: her sisters, Bernadette (Jack) Duggan and Carmel St. Croix; her sisters-in-law Rita & Lorraine; many devoted and attentive nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, relatives, friends and former students and colleagues and the Presentation Sisters. Sister Anna is resting at Presentation Motherhouse, Cathedral Square, St. John's. Visitation will take place on Monday, June 15th from 7 - 9pm, Tuesday, June 16rh from 10am - 12, 2-4p, and 7-9p, with a Vigil service at 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Wednesday, June 17th at 9:30am. Interment will follow at the Presentation Cemetery, Cathedral Square."2 |
