(Q.C.) - 85, Dartmouth, died August 10, 1994, in Victoria General Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Hon. James Wilberforce and Lois Elizabeth (Fletcher) Longley. He was educated at Kings College in Windsor. He took undergraduate studies at Acadia and Dalhousie universities. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1934. He practised law in Halifax for 42 years under the firm name Longley and Longley. He was made a Queens Council in 1973. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he enlisted in the Dalhousie Unit of COTC and won a commission as second lieutentant. He was a prominent numismatist and served for 14 years as a director of the Canadian Numismatic Society. He was a director of the Canadian Paper Money Society and a fellow of the Canadian Numismatic Research Society. He was past president and life member of the Halifax Curling Club and served for many years as director of the BideA-While Animal Shelter of which he was an honorary director. He was an expert bridge player, playing in a number of international tournaments. Following the end of the Second World War, he served as solicitor for the Veterans Establishment Credits for Camp Hill Hospital and later returned to private practice, retiring in 1975. He was the first child christened at All Saints Cathedral, Halifax. He is survived by his son, Charles F. Longley Jr.; four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Doris Genevieve Moignard; two brothers, John W.; Goldwyn L.; two half-brothers, Paul, Horace; half-sister, Louise. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nova Scotia Branch of the Kidney Foundation of Canada."5
