ObituaryJune 1988 Wardington, Oxfordshire, South East England, England; This obituary appeared in a local newspaper in June of 1988. I have a copy of the article but name of the newspaper is not on it.
"Wardington - Mrs. Bishop - At the age of 86, Mrs. Winifred Bishop died peacefully at home on May 25 and it is now that once again the horror and memories of the London bombing in 1940 are relived.
Two of her children had already been evacuated to Adderbury, but one was still at home with her as was her own mother.
Mrs. Bishop went shopping one day and on her return found her house flattened and the whole area cordoned off. After some time she found her daughter, mother and the canary, which went everywhere with them, safe in a local hall.
However, the Germans continued to strafe the area and they were moved to a field which was felt to be safer. Living 'rough' became too much and in 1941 they were moved to a derelict cottage at Mollington. Local villagers did their best to make it habitable for them. In 1945 they moved to Wardington and more comfortable surroundings at Tite Cottage where they stayed until 1953.
Mr. Bishop was in the merchant navy but sadly was not able to enjoy much time in the village as he became ill and died in hospital from bronchitis which could have been caused by his many horrific experiences at sea.
Kept busy caring for the children nd home, Mrs. Bishop found time to do some annual potato picking but will always be remembered by her family as a loving and very good mother and grandmother.
Following her funeral at Wardington on May 31, she was buried near her daughter, Sally, and not far from the graves of her husband and mother. Villagers send deepest sympathy to all members of her family."4
