In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made in Jim's memory to prostate cancer or a charity of your choice. Special thank you to all the Health Care providers who supported and cared for Jim throughout his illness especially, Dr. Renee Lester, Dr. Jonathan Greenland, Dr. Douglas Drover, Dr. Karen Downton, Nurse Dianne Burke, and the many other doctors and nurses of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre and the L.A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit who provided exceptional care and kindness. Jim was an energetic man who loved life. He worked at CBC for 31 years, retiring from his position as Librarian in 1995. Although not part of his direct responsibilities, Jim loved working with the public and audiences in the days when CBC recorded live performances like Anna McGoldrick, Up At Ours, and Come all Ye. His love for working with the public extended into his many years of volunteering and managing Holy Heart Auditorium. He constantly worked to get involved with various events that would allow him to engage with people such as the Papal Visit in 1984, Children's Christmas parties, St. John's Christmas Parade, and the Royal St. John's Regatta. Jim was an avid skater (ice and in-line) and golfer. He was well known for his support to the skating community by helping to provide and play music. Jim loved music and he loved to dance. He thoroughly enjoyed skating and golf and truly valued the friendships he developed over the years. One of Jim's proudest accomplishments was in 2005 when he got four hole in ones on the Clovelly Black Duck Course. Above all his interests and loves in life, he cherished his family most. His devotion and strength will forever be missed."1 |
